“The Balkans – Unfinished European Unification Story” was the topic of this meeting in Belgrade. Against the backdrop of Serbia’s ambitions to join the European Union, and the impact of the financial crisis in the Balkans, the sessions focussed on the potential for further continued political, social and economic reforms as well as the need for strengthening regional integration. Among the speakers were Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetković, Alexander Rondos, Member of the International Commission on the Balkans, and the President of the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence Sonja Licht. The conference participants furthermore met Serbian President Boris Tadić at a reception at the President’s Palace. The conference was organized by Bucerius Summer School Alumni in Belgrade, and took place in cooperation with the Balkan Trust for Democracy and the ISAC-Fund in Belgrade.
